Network and IT Operations Manager
Vermont Law School is seeking to fill the newly created position of Network and IT Operations Manager.
Job Description
Working closely with the Director of Technology, the Network and IT Operations Manager will coordinate helpdesk and network aspects of the campus computing environment, including servers, workstations, laptops, operating systems and standard software; maintain and administer security infrastructure and directory services and offer high skill level direct customer support; determine appropriate application of IT policies and procedures; and maintain and document procedures for implementation of technology at Vermont Law School.
Duties and Responsibilities
- maintain and protect Network Directory Structure ("NDS") tree health through regular patches, maintenance routines and security audits
- maintain current network services (including, but not limited to: Time, DNS, SLP, FTP, Firewall, E-mail, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, NDPS, WWW, Telephone, and File access) and provide for new and emerging technologies
- manage IT operations supervising helpdesk and network administration as well as coordinating work-flow between helpdesk and network administration
- manage and implement technology related projects outlined by the Director of Technology
- ensure that the appropriate technologies are tested and available for faculty, staff and student use
- function as part of the Netgroup (i.e. group assigned to plan network projects) and lead this group when the Network Administrator is unavailable
- coordinate and report to the Director of Technology the budgets for PC, server, and software purchases and time line for implementation of life cycle upgrades
Educational Requirements
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related science or technical field and have industry standard certifications in a relevant technology.
Training and/or Experience
- 5 to 7 years of PC or Helpdesk support
- 2 to 4 years of Network support and design
- previous supervisory responsibility
- experience in an educational institution preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- hardware trouble-shooting
- customer service skills
- Linux OS experience
- understanding of Layer 2 and 3 of he OSI model
- Novell Netware 5 or 6 experience
- Microsoft Desktop Operating Systems experience
- Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003 Server experience
- budgeting and budget management experience
- working knowledge of network storage systems
